The Workplaceless team was honored to win the 2019 Shenandoah Valley Technology Council (SVTC) Innovation in Emerging Business Award. The SVTC is a non-profit membership organization whose mission is to help technology businesses in the area succeed and grow. At their annual Tech Nite event, they honor and recognize technology innovators in the Shenandoah Valley Region.

The Innovation in Emerging Business Award, sponsored by the James Madison College of Business, is awarded to a Shenandoah Valley start-up/emerging technology company or entrepreneur. The 2019 award was presented on April 29th by Patrick McQuown, Executive Director, JMU CoB Center for Entrepreneurship and accepted on behalf of Workplaceless by CEO and Founder, Tammy Bjelland, alongside the company’s CRO, Bryan Stutzman.

“To our team, this award signifies that our work is valuable and that even though we are a young company, we are making a considerable impact on the future of work—and this is just the beginning. This award holds special meaning to us because the missions of the SVTC and Workplaceless are so closely aligned. Both organizations seek to combat the issue of brain drain: Workplaceless on a global scale, and the SVTC on a regional scale; and both organizations advocate for the use of technology to advance professional and economic progress,” Tammy reflects on the recognition.

Among the 30 nominees across 8 categories, fellow SVTC Tech Nite winners included:

• Innovation in Community Impact Award: Exploring Rockingham’s Past
• Innovation in Education K-12 Award: Blue Ridge Community College’s Technology Camps
• Innovation In Higher Education Award: Computer Science Program, Lord Fairfax Community College
• Innovation in Development Award: BarTrack, Inc.

Following the awards gala in April, the SVTC hosted their annual meeting and luncheon on May 23, where Founder Tammy participated in a discussion panel along with fellow Tech Nite award winners. SVTC members asked direct questions about Workplaceless ranging from target market definition, to growth strategy.

As the future of work movement continues to highlight potential global impact, it’s important to focus in parallel on the impact to local communities. Workplaceless is grateful for the opportunity provided by organizations, such as SVTC, to connect with fellow local businesses and entrepreneurs as the economy transitions into the future of work.
